七月四日，不僅是美國(guó)國(guó)慶，亦是黑道律師 Joe Morse（尊加菲路飾）將要上位的大日子！捉住了當(dāng)日百姓們都喜歡投注非法彩票號(hào)碼776（美國(guó)立國(guó)於1776年）的心理，他聯(lián)同黑幫大佬 Ben Tucker 控制派彩結(jié)果，意圖令多間地下錢莊破產(chǎn)，繼而壟斷整個(gè)地下彩票業(yè)。豈料，他哥哥 Leo Morse 正是其中一間錢莊的老闆，為了金錢、為了名利，Joe 不惜要脅其兄跟他一起作非法勾當(dāng)。路越走越是泥足深埳，Joe 能夠掌握得到百姓的心理，又能否掌握到自己的結(jié)局？
《虎穴金剛》用了不少紐約實(shí)境拍攝，借非法彩票故事，在短短七十多分鐘道出了大城市中人性黑暗的一面。在強(qiáng)烈的攝影、精鍊的對(duì)白下，罪惡這個(gè)黑色電影裹不可或缺的命題在電影中無(wú)所遁形。此片被馬田史高西斯推崇備至，甚至是其中一套影響他最深的犯罪電影。
