在一個(gè)風(fēng)景如畫的英國鄉(xiāng)村，自然學(xué)家查爾斯·達(dá)爾文（保羅·貝坦尼 Paul Bettany 飾）與妻女一起過著恬靜的生活。他十歲的大女兒安妮對(duì)世界充滿好奇，達(dá)爾文便教予她很多自然和科學(xué)知識(shí)，其中還包括他的進(jìn)化論，然而在世人都相信上帝乃造物主的當(dāng)時(shí)，女兒口中的進(jìn)化論無疑是危險(xiǎn)的，以至于令她被家庭教師體罰，就連達(dá)爾文深愛的妻子艾瑪（詹妮弗·康納利 Jennifer Connelly 飾）也無法認(rèn)同他的觀念和研究。更令達(dá)爾文受創(chuàng)的是，不久后，小安妮因生病早夭，唯一一個(gè)支持他完成學(xué)說的力量之源也黯淡了，整理《物種起源》手稿的工作變得猶如逆行荊棘，舉步維艱……
本片改編自達(dá)爾文第三代玄孫蘭德爾·凱恩斯（Randal Keynes）的傳記小說《安妮的盒子》。
