三村新之丞（木村拓哉 飾）是名平凡的下級(jí)武士，他的工作是幫藩主試毒，備好的飯菜先由試毒者吃，確認(rèn)沒有不良反應(yīng)后才會(huì)給主人吃。就在一次試毒中，新之丞雙目失明，失去眼睛無異于廢人，他的命運(yùn)急轉(zhuǎn)而下，幸而美貌賢惠的妻子加世（檀麗 飾）幫助下，他才重新面對生活。
